WIP: Spaceplanes

Didn’t think the 1st plane (on the right) was quite good enough. So I knocked up number 2 (on the left) in about 20 mins…….

Very cool… orbit to surface transports?

  2. I’ve always had a problem with the shuttle style doors on ‘spaceplanes’, especially with the frontier style vehicles. The large dorsal hatch is great for access in mircogravity situations, but recquire a certain amount of infrastructure on the ground. Which leads to other design philosophies. Stern ramp? Nose doors? Both? How do you secure a large hatch like that against re-entry?

A good point, I’ve gone for a stern ramp. I hope to do some edits soons. Not sure I can have a belly or nose ramp, thats just dangerous with the heatshields being there.. unless I got a nose one and have it quite high, like some cargo plane sort of thing.
