The thing on the side which I guessed was an attachment point looks odd in this. Also, if you’re doing extra things, why not a torch for that?
The fire selector… I think we can put that down simply to bad design, but man…
You could do with a cover plate on the GL load port. Check out the M16’s brass ejector for ideas…

I’ve never really understood the point of the high mount ejector port on the AS89, that’s not you that’s Ventners from the original design.
It’s a gauss rifle, no casing just fin stabilized flechettes in a magnetic accelerator. They might have a plastic sabot wrapped around them that blows off when the round exits the barrel just to make them a uniform size. 80% of the magazine is going to be battery to power the accelerator.
